This week his task was to focus on implementing some of the Basso on Business team’s initial suggestions on changing his thought process in order to change the way he views his professional interactions and their outcomes. If Brian can start changing the way he thinks and views the challenges he encounters, he can begin to turn each of those challenges into new opportunities.

This week we went over how Marvin presents his business plan to potential investors. Marvin has used the same carefully crafted sales pitch over 50 times so we asked him to pitch us. After listening to Marvin’s pitch, we worked with him to revamp the verbal image he was creating not only as the CEO of the organization but a creator of fine jewelry. We also helped him craft a pitch that created an emotional connection and presented a better value proposition for potential investors. We also reminded him to always remain positive in his demeanor and ensure his presentations reflect that.

Together, we will help Anthony assimilate new technology into his business, take a step back from managing the company’s daily construction jobs to focusing on really managing the company and help him fine tune his messaging to his clients and prospects. We asked Anthony to recap what he learned during the studio taping of Basso on Business, his first meeting with the Basso on Business team. During the taping, Anthony realized how his business is still fragmented; he needs a new, more focused direction for his business and a better approaching to achieving his goals. While Anthony realizes there is a lot of work to be done, such as refocusing the business and reorganizing, we are excited to be helping him clarify his vision and goals for Genesis Creations Contracting.

This week Brian focused on keeping his thoughts positive and upbeat in all situations that may arise as opposed to immediately seeing each situation in a negative light. Brian took the time to really focus on each challenge that came up this week and concentrate on keeping his thoughts constructive and optimistic. This allowed him to turn each situation into a positive opportunity while keeping his stress level down and remaining focused on his weekly goals without being distracted by the challenges that came up.

This week we talked about taking responsibility for making your own decisions. Too often it is easy for an inundated business owner to lean on others to help them make important decisions without really taking any accountability for it. However, at the end of the day you must take responsibility for the action of making the final decision. We worked with Marvin to help him realize that he is truly the only one who can shape his destiny. We helped drive him to do his due diligence in order to make more educated, informed decisions and stressed the importance of vetting the people that you work with in order to trust them to do the best job for you. We also started to touch on goal setting and holding himself accountable. We laid out some of the challenges that are holding him back and worked on creating solutions to help him overcome these challenges

This week Anthony tackled some tough issues and we asked him to give us a recap on the progress he felt he’s made. The biggest issue: Is his business viable or sustainable enough to continue? Anthony was firm in his belief that his business IS sustainable and that he needs to follow his passion of providing responsible contracting services for people with a disability. Reaffirmed in this belief, he’s looking ahead to find new avenues for income and revenue. His next step will be to make new contacts and really revitalize his business.

This week Brian changing the way he prioritizes the tasks that he needs to accomplish. The first change Brian made was writing a plan for his daily goal, a plan of action for the day even if it’s just a few tasks. However, he found that his next challenge was sticking to that plan every day. He’s working hard and he’s finding that sticking to his plans and goals are slowly helping improve his productivity.

This week Marvin read “As A Man Thinketh” and was asked to use this to benchmark against his past and future achievements.Reading “As a Man Thinketh” reinforced Marvin’s work ethic and feelings that without integrity and gratitude, along with sacrifice and hard work, the accomplishments that he aspires to are not possible. After a positive and interactive discussion, we were able to really help Marvin take off the blinders and see how the power of thought drives his internal conversation and the effect it has on external circumstances. Our discussion continued to reinforce that Marvin needs to make independent decisions and take action without relying on others to get him to his goal. If there is no sacrifice, it will be more difficult for Marvin to accomplish his dreams. Self control and perseverance will be the tools that truly enable Marvin to reach his goals and they are two tools that we are positive Marvin has in abundance!

This week Anthony was tasked with changing the way he presents his business to clients and the general marketplace. We had a big breakthrough with Anthony in our last meeting; we found a better way to not sell his product, but sell the benefits of the services that he offers. Beyond physical construction and modifications, Genesis Creations Contracting offers Anthony’s customers security, independence, quality of life and peace of mind; these effects of his services are invaluable and needed to be better marketed. He has been working diligently to incorporate this new approach as he markets his business to new prospects and clients and we’re excited to see the new methods that develop as a result.

This week Brian worked on improving his sales performance and prospecting. To improve, he’s going to make sure he actually completes daily tasks that he knows are a necessity and get out of his own way. He’s going to make sure he steps up his game and takes more accountability for his actions, or lack thereof. His pipeline is growing and his attitude is improving a result.

This week we talked about taking his presentation skills to the next level by examining the goals for each presentation and delving deep into the process he used to determine those goals. We covered a lot of ground and Marvin was in a great place after our last meeting. Through our discussions, we highlighted the power of asking deeper questions as opposed to really scratching the surface to bring new dimensions of each problem to light. We worked with him on slowing down his thought process so that each level of each project gets executed thoroughly at each stage while giving him time for his more creative juices to seep through. Marvin realized the importance of setting a target but not focusing so intently that you lose side of any beneficial byproducts that may be created. These byproducts can be exciting new opportunities themselves!

This week Anthony worked with our team on his blueprint. Personally, I feel that having a blueprint, or a business plan, is crucial to moving your business forward and it tends to be one of the most neglected items on a business owners’ to-do list. First, we started by creating a blueprint to help Anthony clearly define his business objectives to make sure that he was on the right path. Anthony is completely on board creating his plan; he understood that a blueprint is a work in progress and will be a true labor of love. It’s helping him verbalize objects that he didn’t realize he wanted to achieve as well as helping expose the different paths that the company can take.

This week Brian worked on writing down everything he is successful at and how it impacts his performance. Writing down success stories helped Brian realize how much he accomplishes throughout the day. Sometimes, completing small task throughout the day leads to a bigger reward.

This week we talked about really focusing on his targets in order to accomplish his goals. Marvin has the desire and commitment to achieve his goals and the drive to get there. What he needed was help in really focusing on what needed to be done to accomplish those goals. We helped Marvin put a roadmap in place that helped him take the steps he needed to move forward. We helped him define his tasks and set realistic deadlines. By asking better questions and being more specific in what needs to be done he now has more clarity on the path he needs to take. With this new level of clarity, I think we’ll see Marvin’s already impressive progress move forward in leaps and bounds.

This week Brian worked on mapping out goals, action items and tracking his results. Putting goals down on paper gave Brian structure and guidance. Having a plan everyday makes Brian’s life easier and more efficient because he gets to see his progress. Brian describes the changes he has made thus far as “a breath of fresh air.”

This week we talked about really focusing on his targets in order to accomplish his goals. This week we worked on identifying the roadblocks that are preventing him from accomplishing his goals and the steps he’s going ot put in place to overcome these obstacles. Our conversation started around the difference between goals and targets and moved to the ways that Marvin can track both his goals and his targets using a combination of Outlook calendar and task manager. Each goal becomes a layer of clearly laid out tasks and action items which provide a roadmap for accomplishing that goal. This method has allowed Marvin to remain focused, rarely stray from his path and make drastic forward steps.

This week Brian took a new strategy when gathering information from prospective clients, taking on more of a detective role. Asking questions when selling a job to his customers is vitally important; we worked with Brian to help him realize that rooting out all the problems and asking the right questions to get all the facts before closing the deal will leave less room for unfortunate surprises and incorrect assumptions.

This week we examined the effect of the techniques Marvin has implemented thus far on his business, on his goals, and on his sense of self. As a result of his coaching and his recent enlightenment on how prioritizing and using task lists can help increase his efficiency and productivity, Marvin now lists his tasks on a daily basis, making it easier for him to accomplish them. He finds that using this method, his objectives become clearer, enabling him to accomplish even more of his daily goals. As he accomplishes more of these goals, he gets more productivity out of his days and he continues to move forward on his roadmap to success.Accomplishing all of his weekly goals (and more!) makes Marvin feel more of a sense of achievement – which has a profound effect on his business and on his life.

In his final week working with the Basso on Business team, Brian took a long term view and focused on continuing to develop his sales pipeline as the key to his professional success. Brian knows that by creating a strong pipeline report he is effectively creating a roadmap for his sales performance over the next few months. Continually producing a strong sales report demonstrates to his manager and colleagues his commitment to the organization and his role on the team. Going forward, Brian is going to reaffirm his commitment to creating a strong pipeline as a priority in achieving his business and personal goals.

This week, Marvin concentrated on different ways of looking at how potential obstacles can affect his roadmap to achieving his goals. He realized potential obstacles could be viewed not as roadblocks, but as challenges that can present new opportunities. Marvin now knows that his goal setting process needs to include a look at the rewards and consequences of reaching or not reaching those goals.Marvin realized that in creating and following the roadmap to his goals, he needed to isolate and identify potential obstacles and also create steps to deal with those obstacles, proactively turning challenges into opportunities to succeed. As many Long Islanders have probably said…study your roadmap carefully to avoid detours!

This week we worked with Marvin on asking the right questions to get the information he’s really looking for versus telling people what he thinks they want to hear. This is a common problem that affects professionals across all fields; Marvin was not alone as he faced this challenge head-on. By asking the right questions and really digging down, you uncover not just the surface needs but the true needs and desires of the client, which will allow you to provide them with the appropriate product. This fact is true no matter what industry you work in, whether it’s crafting the perfect piece of jewelry or helping someone with a restoration project.
