The following is commentary on the June Working Lunch With Rob featuring Matt Silver of Ultimate Class Limousine in "Less Stress for Success."
Much like Matt’s business, the pace was frenetic and I dealt with one problem after another, making it almost impossible to ever get ahead of the oncoming barrage of problems. Unlike Matt however, I really had NO experience in the health club business so it was doubly challenging for me as far as getting organized (i.e. running a facility, sales, personnel management, bookkeeping, etc.).
Here is a small sample of a few of the “small” (yeah right) problems I had to deal with:
- The hydraulic line which powered the underwater therapy bikes and treadmills ruptured filling an entire pool filled with jet black oil from top to bottom (think BP disaster in Long Beach)
- The entire wall of one side of the building fell into the parking lot
- The heavy glass/steel lid on the pool filter exploded nearly decapitating one of our maintenance workers
Anyway, just when I thought... |

Hey All…
I shared 15 minutes with Rob Basso on Tuesday, June 15th on my afternoon radio show. It was great. It was the first time I met this guy and I was taken with his energy, background and philosophy on life. I liked the fact he got his start driving ice cream truck. Ya gotta love a guy that got his start that way. I also liked his entrepreneurial attitude and spirit. He has this “working lunch,” a monthly gig that is “outside the box” thinking and something all of us wish we had thought of. I think this guy can help take me to another level, and probably you too.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is coming back to Long Island and a regional company, Alure Home Improvements, is the main contractor for the show. I think this is a great event because the whole concept is community building just like we’re trying to do at Basso On Business. They’re building a community- literally, one house at a time- and our goal is to inspire businesses, one entrepreneur at a time. To me, the most amazing part about this is that it brings the business world to the everyday person as both entrepreneurs and neighbors join together to build a home for the deserving family. And while Sal Ferro, owner of Alure Home Improvements, is doing this for all the right reasons, the after effect is that it’s probably going to be really great for his business.
Everybody might not have the opportunity to be on television or have the funds to do such a massive project, but the point here is try to do little things in your own business that help the entire community. What can you do in your community? I know I’m going to show up at the pep rally because I think it’s a great thing he’s doing- and it’s right here on Long Island. Hopefully I see you there!... |
